Step by Step to Purchasing

Back to 'Articles'

Getting set up with a vehicle in Taiwan need not be a troublesome affair if following this simplified run down of preceedures to make sure you both qualify as a driver legally and take the right purchase precautions. Follow the links tabs to relevant information sources. Remember with Auto Checkers vehicle sourcing service, many of these procedures may be made even simpler.

1

Make sure your international licence qualifies you to drive in Taiwan or take measures to obtain a local licence (must have resident status or A.R.C.to apply for local licences).

Read our article on Licences.

2

Do your homework and decide on a vehicle which suits your needs the majority of the time.

Read our articles section on Taiwan motoring and top car choices.

3

Either go out car shopping yourself or give A.C. a call with your vehicle needs and we'll try and source one for you and help your deal through to completion.

4

Once you have found a vehicle, book it with A.C. for a complete inspection to give you the full picture. (Inspections under the 'Sourcing' service are included)

Check out our service page for more details.

5
Decide on your final price with the seller and seal your deal by filling out and signing your contract. Your contract should include any repairs or alterations to the vehicle which need to be made before the enitre balance is settled. Vehicle sellers are always required to settle any outstanding debts, including parking tickets and backpayments in taxes or fines before the motor vehicles office will allow transfer completion to your name, so you shouldn't be overly concerned with these details.
6

Accompany the seller to make the transfer of ownership. You will need two types of official I.D. and you will likely be expected to pay at least a downpayment for the vehicle before the transfer.

Taipei Motor Vehicles Offices locations.

7

On completion of the vehicle change of ownership you will be required to pay the remainder of the vehicle's price if you haven't already done so or have alternative payment plans.

Most deals are made in cash/bank transfers as foreigners may not easily apply for vehicle credit through normal credit channels in Taiwan.
